Morning rock babes…
I believe you all heard the news. Another legend just left us. Karl Lagerfeld is gone. He was simply one of the most creative and talented fashion designers. He was a huge name in the fashion industry and now, I can’t stop wondering who’s gonna take the reins of his kingdom. Who’s gonna be the new creator designer of Chanel and Fendi? And what about his brand?
I’m sure he gave pretty specific directions to his whole staff but… Do you guys think it’s gonna work?
Well, I have no answers, but I hope for the best.
Looking at the social media it’s obvious that there are completely different opinions about him. Some adore him, some others hate him. A lot of people from the fashion business have learned a lot from him and his talent, but many as well have had divergences and discussions with Karl and his ideas. But in the end, this is what you go through when you are an icon of whatever kind.
From my point of view, he’s been a fashion genius. He’s been able to give Chanel a new life and to manage both Chanel (for 30 years) and Fendi (for 54 years) with a business acumen that was over the top. I guess not everyone can manage and design for two huge Maisons as these are, and keep the authenticity and uniqueness in them both. Certainly he made awesome collections, but I feel like his best has been done with his personal brand, Karl Lagerfeld.
Karl liked to say he was a caricature of himself and, what I like the most, a “walking label”. And we can clearly see all this in the creations he made for the Karl Lagerfeld brand. So he designed the unmistakable figures of himself and Choupette, his Burmese princess, and of course his signature.
I see a lot of rock and punk in his personality and in the Karl Lagerfeld collections as well. So many of his pieces are rock, or they can be well fitted in a rock outfit. And because I think the best way to honour him is to own something he created, I couldn’t resist to build up some ideas for you. Have a look below and pic your favourite…
My first choice this time goes for skirts, which is kind of weird for who knows me. I’m usually more knee to wear pants, but I often feel like skirts are easier to rock, and many times they’re already rock by themselves.
So here you have only to choose between a mini or a maxi and play around with leather and biker stuff.
Maxi skirt Effortlessly chic and flattering, it features a daring slit through the back that keeps it subtly sensual; Mini boucle skirt Elevated with a pleated insert that lends volume and movement. Shimmering with sequins and easy to fasten with a wrap closure; Jet black t-shirt; Ruffles white t-shirt As versatile as it is youthful and cool. From the round neckline to the voluminous ruffles, make it a go-to for casual or off-duty outfits; Leather biker jacket; K/Klassik leather Wallet on chain In black with punk-rocker attitude, with silver-tone details are a fun touch while the structured interior is perfect for your cardholder, phone, and lipstick. (all from Karl Lagerfeld); Calfskin studded trim Combat boots Flat profile, exposed zip at side and lace-up at top (from Ash)
The second choice of looks is more casual but with a special “heel touch” that creates a “sexy twist”. I see this as a day outfit, on which you can add a tailored blazer to step out of work and be ready for your girls night out.
Wide leg pants These immaculately tailored wide-leg pants are a versatile investment that you can wear for business or downtime. And the flattering silhouette will never date and the soft texture combined with the wide leg is the most comfy ever; White t-shirt Printed with the cartoon motif of the iconic designer and his beloved feline Choupette, it will elevate your casual in an instant; Sleeveless cashmere top Bold logo branding on the sides, styled with a round neckline and a relaxed fit, it’s a versatile topper for casual cool; Canvas shopper In cream and black leather handles, from the spacious interior to the bold logo on the front it will elevate your off-duty in a hot minute. (All from Karl Lagerfeld); Jeans Golden Goose jolly pants made in Italy; Sandals Lauren Marinis.
Wide leg pants; White t-shirt; Blue boucle jacket In a muted shade of blue with a pointed collar, is a chic choice with a contemporary impact; Grey boucle blazer A chic statement with a slightly cropped length. Finished with satin trim for slick attention to detail, it features a structured silhouette that is effortless to style; Black bucket bag; Red quilted shoulder bag (All from Karl Lagerfeld); Sneakers Golden Goose Hi Star.
However, this is my little something to honour a fashion icon that I loved for his rock personality and collections. Some more of his rock clothes are below, together with one of his famous quotes, that I think it’s a perfect phrase for my blog.
“Never use the word ‘cheap’.
Today everybody can look chic in inexpensive clothes (the rich buy them too).
There is good clothing design on every level today.
You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans—it’s up to you.”
